Monitoring

Our Sikh community want us to change they way we record belief and move the category of 'Sikh' to ethnicity. What should we do?

EFB Comment:
An increasing number of employers do now monitor on belief. The general feeling was that if organisations used the CRE categories for ethnicity monitoring this allowed for comparison with national statistics. This could be used as a defence for not reporting Sikhs under ethnicity but keeping them under belief, and working to drive up the number of people who felt happy to declare their beliefs at work.

If belief status is captured the information can be used to re-assure the Sikh community of fairness in the workplace regardless of whether the category 'Sikh' is an ethnic or religious grouping.

Have your say
